What are the reasons for Azerbaijan’s reluctance to grant status and for Armenia’s persistence in demanding it?

“A lot has changed in the world and we, as a small state, ought to realize what position we occupy in this changing world, what is the path that we choose and how to take the right direction. Otherwise, the charge of the wrong direction will be extremely hard to take,” Edgar Khachatryan.
