Peace Dialogue NGO Announced as a Member of HRAP Coordination Council

According to the decree N 1978-L on the Action Plan 2020-2022 deriving from the National Strategy on Human Rights Protection (hereinafter referred to as HRAP) issued by the RA Government on 26 December 2019, the HRAP coordination and monitoring will be implemented by the Coordination Council consisting of the representatives of public authorities and civil society organizations.

The process of involving non-governmental organizations in the Council was arranged by the RA Ministry of Justice on competitive basis. According to the procedure, more than ten non-governmental organizations operating in Armenia submitted applications to the RA Ministry of Justice to be included in the Council. Based on a thorough examination of the received applications, nine organizations meeting the standards set by the strategy, successfully passed to the second round of the competition, of which only seven representatives would have the opportunity to join the Council.

According to the decree N282-A on approving the individual staff, the rules of procedure and the form of reporting of the Council coordinating the implementation of the Action Plan 2020-2022 deriving from the National Strategy on Human Rights Protection issued by the RA Prime Minister on 2 March 2020, the Council was proclaimed as the authority to discuss, propose, and select NGO candidates who have passed to the second round of the competition for the involvement in the Council activities.

Taking into consideration the need to ensure the involvement of human rights sector, the RA Ministry of Justice proposed the candidacy of the following seven NGO representatives that have passed to the second stage of the competition:

  • Eurasia Partnership Foundation
  • Women’s Resource Center
  • Open Society Foundations
  • Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor
  • Peace Dialogue
  • Center for Rights Development
  • Protection of Rights Without Borders

As a result of the election held on 1 July 2020, by a simple majority of Coordination Council members’ votes, the representatives of the aforementioned seven organizations were declared to be involved in the Coordination Council’s activities of the implementation of the Action Plan 2020-2022 deriving from the National Strategy on Human Rights Protection.
