In September 2018, Peace Dialogue NGO will start an initiative called “Proactive civil society participation in the protection and promotion of human rights in the Armenian Military Forces”. This project is aimed at promoting civil society mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of actions derived from the National Human Rights Action Plan for 2017-2019.

In the framework of this project Peace Dialogue NGO intends to establish an independent civil society monitoring group. It will consist of representatives from various NGOs, civic movements or media outlets that will oversee the related activities of the MoD to the National Human Rights Action Plan. Based on the revealed data, the monitoring group will raise the awareness of MoD officials, parliament members, Armenian citizens and relevant international actors about the successes and failures during the action plan’s implementation.

The monitoring group will make recommendations for the improvement of human rights conditions in the RA Armed Forces. In a longer-term perspective, Peace Dialogue expects to establish greater civil society control over MoD actions while providing more support for the protection of human rights in the Armenian Military Forces.
