The following stage of the “Journalism without Borders” cultural exchange took place on April 16-23 in Berlin, Germany. Since 2020, the project has been conducted in a digital format due to COVID-related restrictions. After all, this event was the first offline exchange in the scope of the project in which eight participants from Armenia, Germany and France took part. Majority of those young people attend school and are actively involved in community life activities.
The encounter in the scope of the project was aimed at introducing tools and techniques of modern journalism to the young participants, show them the cultural peculiarities of the three countries involved in the project and the history of Berlin, as well as to make a platform for new acquaintances and networks.
During the seven-day meeting, the young people participated in photo, video, graffiti, and civic journalism workshops, got acquainted with the journalistic basics and tools, and had the opportunity to apply them in practice. The trainings were conducted by the national group leaders. The Armenian team was represented by independent journalist Mane Papyan and Marianna Khazhakyan from Peace Dialogue NGO.
Among the crucial parts of the meeting were the site visits, including places of historical importance and museums in order to discover the city of Berlin as one of the centers where historically significant events took place in previous decades.
It is noteworthy that the international group was represented by participants of different nationalities and religions, thanks to which the young people got acquainted with the peculiarities of other religions, cultures and national traditions.
The meeting was conducted with a trilingual consecutive interpretation which ensured all participants’ full involvement and self-realization.
The project is ongoing. The next phase will take place in Marseille, France.
The project is implemented by Peace Dialogue NGO, Une Terre Culturelle Association (France), and Pangera NGO (Germany) with the support of the Franco-German Youth Office and Erasmus +.
