21 young men and women from the Lori, Shirak and Tavush regions acquire basic skills in photojournalism and filming news reports.
From 3 to 7 December, Peace Dialogue NGO organized its second civic journalism training session as part of the Training Next-Generation Civic Journalists in Northern Armenia as Future Democracy Watchdogs project. Youth interested in civic journalism and possible careers as journalists and broadcast news reporters travelled to Dilijan to attend learning sessions on how to make interesting, compelling photojournalism reports and short videos. Media trainer David Papia of Go Group Media and JAMnews in Tbilisi, Georgia led the program which focused on learning photography skills and techniques; taking photos for use in news reports; preparing video news report scenarios; preparing video interviews; and editing filmed content and production of short news videos.
The Dilijan event also built on work done by regional youth at the project’s first civic journalism training session held in late September/early October in Gyumri. Media educator Mane Papyan led follow-up discussions on youth participants’ written reporting work (development of news articles) and provided feedback on what trainees needed to do to improve further their writing skills.
Peace Dialogue’s civic journalism project will continue over the next three months, when project organizers and trainers will review participants’ written outputs and photo-/video-reporting. Participants will regularly receive feedback on their journalistic work, and the Peace Dialogue team will share interesting outputs (articles, photos and video reports) on its website and via its social media.
