On 4 June 2020, the representatives of the National Assembly’s Standing Committees on Defense and Security and Protection on Human Rights and Public Affairs hosted the staff of Peace Dialogue NGO’s project called Civil Society Support for Democratic Oversight Processes of Human Rights Conditions in the Armenian Army.
The working meeting was aimed at developing approaches and ways for civil society representatives and Parliamentarians to more effectively collaborate in monitoring the Armed Forces’ activities within the framework of the Action Plan deriving from the National Strategy on Human Rights Protection.
Accentuating the civil society’s role in exercising democratic control over the defense sector, the Parliamentarians expressed their readiness to support the monitoring group established within the framework of the project. The Parliamentarians also pointed out that within the framework of this cooperation they expect to receive the project staff’s impartial and unbiased analysis on possible causes of the issues identified during the monitoring, as well as concrete and realistic proposals for their solution.
